Primary Job Function:

The Reynoldsburg City Schools’ Communications Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Executive Director of Communications and Outreach with the coordination and implementation of communications both internal, Reynoldsburg City Schools staff and students, as well as external outreach to families and engagement with the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or Public Relations preferred
  • Three (3) years previous experience in the field of Communication including public relations, community engagement, community relations and/or marketing
  • Proper endorsements as required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. Leadership

  • Responsible for assisting with the supervision, planning, and development of strategies for proactive communication and public relations that informs, connects, and engages students, staff, parents and community members
  • Responsible for providing leadership to the cross-departmental teams to identify marketing and communication opportunities that elevate Reynoldsburg City Schools
  • Responsible for assisting with strategic direction for the district’s communications efforts to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Responsible for serving as the district contact and spokesperson for media matters when necessary
  • Responsible for managing projects with external vendors. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Graphic designers
    • Videographers
    • Photographers
    • Other vendors as needed
  • Responsible for maintaining the brand, mission and vision of the district
  • Responsible for assisting the Executive Director of Communications and Outreach as a liaison between Reynoldsburg City Schools, local governments and community leaders
  • Responsible for assisting with the development and maintenance of relationships with local media to ensure district communications are accurate and timely
  • Responsible assisting with the management of program(s) and/or department responsibilities regarding innovative programs/services including but not limited to:
    • Website design
    • Marketing materials
    • Public relations image
    • Data management

Communication and Support

  • Responsible for assisting with the production and distribution of all written forms of communication issued by the district
  • Responsible for assisting the Executive Director of Communications and Community Engagement with the development of a content calendar for social media and newsletters
  • Responsible for assisting the Executive Director of Communications and Community Engagement with the development of marketing and communications campaigns
  • Responsible for assisting with the management of the content of the district website when requested
  • Responsible for assisting in the collaboration with internal and external stakeholders such as: staff, parents, local and state government leaders, local businesses, etc.
  • Responsible for responding to media and/or media reports in a timely fashion when required
  • Responsible for providing excellent customer service by engaging with all audiences on social media through the continuous monitoring of the various RCS social media accounts. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Reviewing all messages/comments on social media accounts
    • Responding to all messages/comments when appropriate
    • Routing messages/comments to appropriate RCS personnel for response
    • Notifying appropriate RCS personnel of potential threats to the district
  • Responsible for assisting with the creation and posting of social media content on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the REYN App.
  • Responsible for monitoring communication channels for adherence to best practices with a focus on social media
  • Responsible for supporting the Superintendent, Administration and Executive Director of Communications and Outreach with crisis communications when necessary
  • Responsible for completing communication requests as directed by the Executive Director of Communications and Community Engagement and/or the Senior Leadership Team
  • Responsible for planning and organizing events and presentations as requested
  • Responsible for creating and distributing a quarterly newsletter

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of marketing strategies and tactics
  • Knowledge of website management systems, video editing software, photo editing software, Adobe Creative suite
  • Knowledge of social media management systems, Google Analytics, SEO, Google AdWords
  • Skilled in writing and editing
  • Skilled in developing and implementing successful social marketing strategies
  • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
  • Skilled in being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do
  • Skilled in identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance
  • Skilled in being highly detail-oriented with an attention to quality
  • Ability to develop and implement successful social marketing strategies
  • Ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences
  • Ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team
  • Ability to be a self-starter
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to set priorities and propose new ways of creating efficiencies
  • Ability to drive to locations around the district

 

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:  

  • Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion.
  • Working Conditions – The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
  • Driving Requirement – This position may require driving.
