Bilingual Family Liaison
Definition:
Acts as a direct point of contact between parents/guardians of EL students and teachers, principals, and district as a whole. Provides direct interpretation/translation as needed and/or arranges interpretation /translation services for the communication of confidential student information.
Responsibilities:
- Assist parents in the understanding of district and school procedures, such as attendance, absences procedures, school bus transportation, discipline policy, free and reduced lunch and other procedural processes.
- Interaction in a professional and confidential manner with families
- Serve as an interpreter whenever necessary as directed by the ESL department.
- Serve as a home to school connection for individual buildings as needed during conferences or home visits.
- Work with the school nurses on issues regarding health care needs and compliance with school procedures around policies
- Translate and/or utilize translation services for individual school communication to parents.
- Familiarize families with education choices such as preschool, schools of choice, dual enrollment and post-secondary.
- Process incoming calls from families. Be able to listen to questions and concerns and provide clarification.
- Support families in resources in the community such as Reynoldsburg Library, Adult English, and YMCA.
- Research and present cultural information to share with RSCD personnel.
- Assist with interpretation for any newcomers
- Additional duties as the student services department deems necessary
- Flexibility with schedule. There will be some evening events.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a high school diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent.
- Experience working with a public-school system or in a role similar.
- Ability to assist with communication with non-English speaking parents and students.
- Prior experience with interpretation where confidentially is required.
- College coursework preferred.
- Ability to speak and write in Nepali preferred.

Excellent interpersonal skills; able to exercise highest standards of professionalism, tact, and discretion when communicating with students, parents, administrators, and the general public.
